KITA (Chairman: Jin Sik Yoon), the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources (Minister: Jeong Kwan Kim) and the Federation of Korean Information Industries (Chairman: Seung Wook Kim) co-hosted "Manufacturing AI Transformation" on Monday, 27 April at KITA HQs in Seoul to support AI transformation of manufacturing exporter companies.


The seminar was attended by at least 200 business representatives from companies with a plan for AI transformation and focused on a) government's support for AI transformation, b) technologies enabling the application of AI-powered manufacturing and c) infrastructures powered by physical AI and examples of applying digital twin. The seminar also offered them a chance to gain information on how AI transformation can be applied to everyday business activities and how it is actually applied and implemented.


In his keynote speech, Professor Joo Seok Lee from Yonsei University mentioned, "Making full use of AI requires establishing an independent environment that runs on company's internal data and system, rather than relying on third-party cloud services." He added, "A comprehensive approach that takes both hardward and software into account is needed to use AI in an efficient manner, even in a situation with limited GPU resources."


Officials from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources who attended the seminar delivered a presentation on "Alliance Programme for M.AX (Manufacturing AI transformation)" and gave an introduction on public-private support programmes to cater to the needs of AI transformation. They also shared a commitment to accelerate manufacturing AI transformation by offering comprehensive support covering stages from technology development, validation to commercialisation.


Additionally, officials from the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH), Samsung SDS and SK AX also delivered a presentation on core technologies and methodologies of applying AI transformation at manufacturing sites. These presentations also included success cases of AI transformation, which allowed attendees to gain information on the best type of AI transformation that fits their business through real examples.


KITA Senior Executive Director Seok Min Jang mentioned, "We hope this seminar will serve as a starting point of accelerating AI transformation" and added, "KITA is committed to offering more practical support to boost AI transformation capabilities, including AI training programmes, on-site consultation services and visit programmes to leading companies in AI transformation."
