Christopher
Koo, the Chairman of Korea International Trade Association, hosted a policy
debate meeting between leaders of innovative companies and the presidential
candidate of the Democratic Party, Mr. Jae-myeong Lee, who was invited for this
meeting. The meeting was held on January 6 at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul.
Chairman Koo specially asked the candidate not to spare efforts to support the
innovate spirit of exporting companies.
Chairman
Koo congratulated last year’s achievements of Korea’s trade by saying, “The
trade volume has exceeded one trillion dollars for the first time, much earlier
than expected and the country also witnessed remarkable results with the
highest ever total international trade and exports.” But he also said “Such
achievement sadly cannot be taken for granted in the coming years.” He
highlighted the importance of trade by saying, “Supporting innovation across
the trading business by discovering common grounds between traditional trading
industries and start-ups and actively reflecting requirements raised by the
exporting sector in government policies are key to keep Korea’s prominent
standing as a trading powerhouse intact in a fast-changing global trading
environment.”
Chairman
Koo also delivered a book, titled “New Trade & Commerce Strategy for
Resetting the position of Korea’s Trade”, to candidate Lee. This book includes
the vision and strategies of trade policies recommended to the next incoming
government.
