    - Lee Ho-seung, Policy Chief of the Blue House visited on April 14th public and private sectors must work together responding to restructuring movementof global supply chain -

Christopher Koo, Chairman of the Korea International Trade Association, met with Ho-seung Lee, Policy Chief of the Blue House at the Trade Tower in Samseong-dong on April 14th, and discussed issues in trade and commerce for about an hour.

Chairman Koo said, “In recent years, the United States and the European Union (EU) have placed stabilizing the semiconductor and battery supply chain and attracting production facilities to their countries as their top priority, and the movement to restruture the supply chain of major countries is accelerating,” and stressed, “Since there are limitations for individual companies to respond, we need to think about innovation strategies for industry and trade at the government level and come up with preemptive countermeasures through close communication between the public and private sectors with a view to securing competitiveness in key industries.”

In addition, Chairman Koo stated, “It is very important to foster the service industry with high added value during the period of great industrial structure transformation,” and added, “I hope that the government will put more effort into regulatory innovation in the service industry and boosting the morale of entrepreneurs.”

He also called for the government's particular interest in the movement of people and goods as the export companies are undergoing difficulties due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the recent Suez Canal ship stuck crisis.

In response, Policy Chief Lee Ho-seung said, “From the second half of last year, exports are driving the recovery of our economy,” and added, “We especially appreciate the efforts of the Korea International Trade Association to provide active supports such as such as operating a special charter flight, immigration support center for business people, and import and export logistics center to alleviate the difficulties of exporting companies caused by the spread of COVID-19.” He also mentioned, “We will seriously review and respond to the opinions conveyed by the association today,” and added, “In the future, I will actively participate in business meetings organized by the Korea International Trade Association and listen to the opinions of the trade industry.”
