Three Foreigners Passed 45th International Trade Specialist Exam

    - 2 Chinese, 1 Japanese are expected to play a role as bridge between two countries -

Three foreign applicants passed the 45th International Trade Specialist Level 1 Examination organized by the Korea International Trade Association (Chairman: Kim Young-Ju).

3509 individuals from 10 regions nationwide, including Seoul, Busan, and Daegu, took the exam on February 15th. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the exam was held under difficult circumstances as each test site had to be disinfected and every test taker as well as supervisor had to wear masks during the exam in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Despite the stringent situation, a number of foreign applicants passed the exam and it indicates that not only Koreans but also foreigners are highly interested in earning qualifications for the international trade specialist.

The total number of five foreigners took this exam and two Chinese and one Japanese passed. Considering the facts that only one international applicant has passed the exam over the past 17 years and the overall average pass rate of foreigners is only 30 percent, it is very impressive to witness three foreigners passing this exam.

The increase in the number of foreign applicants is proof that the status of the international trade specialist has risen and that the examination is fairly effective to test the test takers' practical knowledge. It is expected that more foreigners will grow as bridge between two countries by acquiring qualifications for the international trade specialists.

The International Trade Specialist Qualification Examination has been conducted by the Korea International Trade Association since 1993 to foster working knowledge of trade human resources and to objectively test their qualifications. Over the last 17 years, more than 140,000 individuals took the exam and the examination has established itself as the representative trade-related qualification test in Korea. The examination has four subjects, including trade norms, trade settlement, trade contracts, and trade English. The industries also provide qualification earners with benefits such as extra points when hiring and promoting.
