    KITA Held ‘Korea-Colombia Business Forum’ in Bogota

     

    - Some 300 government officials, including Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon and president of Colombia Chamber of Commerce and business people from both countries participated -


     

    The Korea International Trade Association (Chairman, Kim Young-joo) held a‘Korea-Colombia Business Forum’ jointly with the National Business Association of Colombia (ANDI) and the Bogota Chamber of Commerce in Bogota, Colombia on May 6th (local time).


     

    The event, which was held under the theme of 'partnership of mutual prosperity through innovation', was attended by some 300 government officials and business people from both countries, including Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon of South Korea and the Minister Jose Manuel Restrepo Abondano of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Colombia.


     

    The two countries shared the results of the economic cooperation utilizing the Korea-Colombia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which marks the third anniversary this year and discussed ways to diversify cooperation in the areas of information and communication technology (ICT), innovative ideas and start-ups.


     

    Chairman Kim Young-joo of the Korea International Trade Association said in his opening address, "Colombia is a representative cultural country in Latin America and now its importance as a strategic bridge between North and South Americas is becoming bigger and bigger. He stressed, "If we combine Korea's cutting-edge ICT technology with the Colombia’s Smart City plan, the two countries can be the best partners of mutual prosperity through innovation."


     

    In his keynote speech, Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon said, "Korea and Colombia will become good partners in the field of ICT, infrastructure, energy and cultural exchanges based on a blood alliance. He added, In particular, President Duqu 's Orange economy is connected with the future blueprint of the Korean government's innovative growth.


     

    During the forum, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed among the Korea International Trade Association, the National Business Association of Colombia (ANDI) and the Bogota Chamber of Commerce. The Korea International Trade Association plans to continue to carry out civil-level cooperation such as forming ANDI and Korea-Colombia private economic cooperation committee.


     

    From Korea, government officials such as Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon, Chairman Kim Young-joo of the Korea International Trade Association, the organizer of the forum, 1st Vice Minister Cho Hyun of Foreign Affairs and Direct General Yong-Rae Kim for Industrial Technology Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and 41 companies and organizations KOTRA, LG CNS, Lotte, Samsung Electronics, Kia Motors, and SK Innovation participated in the forum.


     

    From Colombia, the Minister Jose Manuel Restrepo Abondano of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, the president Bruce Mac Master of ANDI, the president Monica de Greiff of Bogotta Chamber of Commerce, President Flavia Santoro of ProColombia, the president Juan Carlos Archila of Claro, the president Miguel Duran of Korea-Colombia Chamber of Commerce, Economic and Strategic Advisor Felipe Buitrago to Presidency of Colombia and Advisor Victor Munoz for Innovation and Digital Transformation to Presidency.
